....so you want to be an independent consultant...

$1,292.00 USD

If you are thinking of becoming an independent consultant, you will get advice from every turn:

  • It is so EASY!
  • It is so hard...
  • The money is so great!
  • Finding clients and marketing is hard.
  • You will earn so much more as a consultant
  • ...after expenses you may earn less
  • The money is great, but the travel will kill you!

The advice goes on and on. People with no experience as an independent consultant are often the most vocal in their advice!

This consulting package will get you started towards the decision:

Should you become an independent project management consultant?

You get the advice of an experienced project manager and consultant, Alex S. Brown, PMP IPMA-C. Before I started my own consulting company in 2006, I studied many business models and approaches. I originally fought against my own desire to start my own business, because of the negative stereotypes I had about consulting.

I discovered that starting your own business is all about choices. You can decide how you want your business to run. Mistakes can cost you your livelihood, but good choices can give you tremendous freedom and opportunity.

At the Sydney PMI Congress in 2008, I was able to interview a panel of experienced independent consultants. I learned a tremendous amount about their business models. To get some ideas about the topics and issues we can cover together, see the paper from the presentation at alexsbrown.com.

I am also a professional member of the National Speakers Association. Project management professional associations have relatively few entrepreneurs and solo consultants in them, but most NSA members are a solo business owner. My experience with NSA, project management consultants, and my own business will give us many sources to draw from.

We will review your current career situation and brainstorm together to discover the right business plan for your possible consulting practice. Before you spend any money on lawyers, accountants, and marketing materials, we will put together a basic business plan to see if this is the right choice for you.

This coaching package includes your first five hours of discussion, business plan drafting, business plan review, and advice. By the end of our work together, you will know whether consulting is right for you.
